Sam Sits Down With Linxup To Talk About Successful Safety Programs

by Sam Watts | Jun 11, 2025

Linxup recently published a great piece called “4 Keys to a Successful Safety Program” — and I’m honored they interviewed me for it. We had an in-depth conversation about what really works when it comes to keeping fleets safe, and their article pulls together some of the most important elements every carrier should be paying attention to.

The first point they nailed is that success starts at the top. Safety programs don’t thrive by accident — they’re driven by leaders who set the tone, model the right behaviors, and make safety a non-negotiable part of the company culture. If leadership isn’t fully engaged, drivers and staff won’t be either.

We also talked about how training takes priority. Safety isn’t a one-and-done orientation; it’s an ongoing process. The best fleets are constantly reinforcing best practices, addressing risky behaviors early, and giving their teams the tools to improve.

Another key point from the article is the importance of investing in the right technology — and then actually using it correctly. From dash cams to telematics, the best tools in the world won’t make an impact if they’re collecting dust or only pulled out after an incident. Technology needs to be woven into daily operations and tied directly to proactive driver coaching and risk reduction strategies.

Lastly, Linxup highlighted that ease-of-use, accessibility, and customer service matter. A safety program is only as strong as the tools people are willing and able to use. If your tech is clunky, hard to access, or backed by poor support, adoption will suffer — and so will your results.

I appreciated being part of this discussion because it’s a reminder that building a truly successful safety program isn’t about piling on rules or equipment. It’s about leadership commitment, ongoing training, smart tech integration, and making it easy for people to follow through.

If you haven’t read the full article yet, it’s worth the time. Check out Linxup’s “4 Keys to a Successful Safety Program” and see how your fleet stacks up.
